Welcome to Petra Shawarma, Established in 2013 in the heart of Auckland, Petra Shawarma was created from a simple but powerful dream  to share the true taste, warmth, and hospitality of Jordan with New Zealand.

We are proud to be the only Jordanian restaurant in New Zealand, bringing a cuisine that is rich in history, generosity, and deep family tradition to our local community.

Our story begins long before our doors first opened. The recipes we serve today have been lovingly passed down through generations of our family in Jordan. They are not just dishes  they are memories of gatherings, celebrations, and Sunday afternoons in our grandmother’s kitchen. Every spice blend, every marinade, and every method of preparation carries the legacy of those who came before us.

Founded by Dalal, Mahmoud,  The Sisters, and The Kids, Petra Shawarma is truly a family effort. What started as a passion project has grown into a home away from home for many. From kneading dough for freshly baked bread to slow-cooking meats with traditional Jordanian spices, we prepare our food the same way it has always been made  with patience, authenticity, and love.

We carefully source the finest local New Zealand ingredients while also importing key spices and specialty items directly from Jordan to ensure every bite delivers the genuine flavours of our homeland. Our menu celebrates the diversity of Jordanian cuisine  from tender grilled meats and hearty platters to fragrant rice dishes and vibrant salads, all crafted with care and intention.

But Petra Shawarma is more than just a restaurant. It is a place where cultures meet, stories are shared, and families gather around the table. In Jordanian culture, food is an expression of generosity and when you dine with us, you are treated as part of our extended family.
